Historical Background
Lanlate once hosted a Campus of old Oyo State College of Education, Ilesa from 1982 till 1985. Its establishment was by the administration of late Chief Bola Ige (Executive Governor of old Oyo State) and closure was under the Military Administration due to rationalization exercise of the Campuses of the College of Education in the State. However, the Oyo State Government under the leadership of Late Lamidi Adesina re-opened the Campus on December 11, 2002 as a Campus of Oyo State College of Education, Oyo (now Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo).
In 2013, the National Commission for Colleges of Education, Abuja (NCCE) directed that all satellite Campus of Colleges of Education in Nigeria should be closed down. In order to forestall the closure of the campus again, the government took proactive measures as a result of information received from the Governing Council of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo (now Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo). So, the law establishing the College was enacted by the 8th State House of Assembly in December, 2014, and on April 25, 2015, the Executive Governor of Oyo state, Senator Isiaq Abiola Ajimobi signed the law as ‘The College of Education, Lanlate, Oyo State’, thus making it an autonomous College of Education. Thereafter, an amendment, as re-enacted by the 9th State House of Assembly, was made to the “Long and Short Titles” of the Principal Law which renamed the College to ‘Oyo State College of Education, Lanlate’. This was assented to by His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, the Executive Governor of Oyo State on 22 September, 2020.
